It doesn’t come as a shock to many people that I am a raging feminist. Of course, everyone should be feminists as it is just the belief that women are equal to men, but for me it holds a very deep meaning. I hate the dirty connotation that the word ‘feminist’ holds. I want people to, without hesitation, say that they are a feminist and not think it means you hate men, don’t shave or are offended by everything. I realised in the first year of uni that issues regarding women got me extremely emotional. As many 19-year olds I was going out a lot, drinking and doing stupid shit, however the people I kept as company were not a good choice. I say this mainly to highlight the BOYS that I was surrounded by. They did and still do have very little respect for women. I was often left confused as to why they treated me the way that they did, making me feel bad for doing things which were completely normal. It later become clear that they held a lot of sexist, uneducated views and as a result, this only grew my strong feminist beliefs.

Choosing to cut off all the boys I was spending my time with was one of the best decisions I made. I take appreciation in them fuelling my strong feminist views, but I’m so glad I no longer have to listen to their shit. I think one reason I so openly talk about sex is because of the shame these people used to make me feel about it. If I had a one-night stand, they would make comments, tweets, or even make shit up.  This would make me feel awful and it would affect me so much (of course, the boy I slept with wouldn’t get any shit). I would sit so upset questioning if I’m a slag and feeling so awful about the drunken decisions I had made. Until I realised that these people’s opinions really do mean fuck all. I let these people control my thoughts so much that I wasn’t even the person I wanted to be. As I started to get older, more educated and spend more time with people like Lewis, Sam and Harry, I realised that this isn’t “boys just being boys” this is sexist pigs doing what they do best. I claimed back my body, my decisions and my truth. Once you don’t give these people the ability to control how you feel, they really do have nothing.

The reason I say all this is because I want to touch on how happy I am now and how lucky I feel to be surrounded by great people. 2 Gingers 1 Brooks is one very dysfunctional group, but I couldn’t love each person more. It’s a group of strong badass women and very respectful men (Brooks is questionable of course). I’m not sure what I did to deserve such great friends but here I am. One person that really helped me is Lewis, when it came to my attention that all men are trash, he showed me that this wasn’t always the case. Of course, for him how he behaves is just normal, but I had been surrounding myself with boys who act like pure fools. I can only thank him, which I often do after 1 too many, for keeping my faith in men.

Harry, Lewis and Sam have always been such great friends to me. I’ve not intended to sound so deep in this post, but I genuinely appreciate them so much. I can say or do whatever I want and really be myself, whilst still feeling the same amount of love from them. Of course I play up to this ‘sex maniac’ of the group but I know they would love me regardless anyway. Women can be sexy and clever, talk openly about sex and be a virgin, send nudes but have self-respect. There isn’t a rule book that makes you a ‘woman’, just create the person you wish to be and own it.  I’m not saying you have to go out and be a raging whore, but if like me you get great joy from it then so be it. We are young, now is our time to make mistakes, don’t let people make you feel guilty about that.

I’m going to shut up now, as of course as always, I have been chatting pure shit. The message I want to get across really is choose your friends wisely, if people are making you feel bad for decisions that you are ok with, then they aren’t the right people. Don’t let people’s opinions question who you are. Girls go out and shag who you want, if you are happy with how you act or what you do then don’t let little boys make you doubt yourself. Also be feminist bitches with pride. Thank you, Harry, for giving me this opportunity, I hope I haven’t ruined your blog and lost you all your readers. Peace out, stay safe and by that, I mean have safe sex. xx
