Sian’s piece was good wasn’t it? Naturally it was nice to receive a shoutout for being a good friend (I’m as shocked as you are), but the point Sian put across was a very important one and I’m honoured she took the time to discuss it on my blog. Sian and I have always had a good laugh together but as I’ve got to know her better over the past twelve months I’ve also realised what a strong, intelligent woman she really is and it’s refreshing to spend time with someone so passionate about their views. I like to consider myself a feminist and I very much enjoy the conversations I have with Sian on the subject, even if most of the time it just results in us getting angry about how misguided some people are. Anyway, if you haven’t taken the time to read Sian’s piece I strongly suggest you do because she gets an imperative point across in a way only she could.
On Tuesday morning I managed to complete a twenty two mile bike ride, six miles longer than anything I’ve completed so far. I’m starting to see serious progress in my fitness and the way I look which is really pleasing, as well as having much more energy and feeling more positive about life in general. On my bike ride I bumped into Milly Turner (a family friend) and stopped for a quick chat which was nice as I obviously haven’t seen her since lockdown came in. I also cycled past Kiera on her way to work and only narrowly avoided being run over by her. Bumping into people on my travels is one of the things I enjoy most about suburban life and I mentioned to Sam that I’d be going insane right about now if I lived in a city centre. One of the things I enjoy most about my bike rides is being surrounded by beautiful views and endless countryside because it really is relaxing and peaceful, as opposed to cycle lanes and traffic in the middle of a polluted city.
On Wednesday afternoon Hayley and I took the dog for a walk around Hilton Nature Reserve. We had no idea it even existed until we saw someone post about it on Facebook a few weeks back so I suggested we go and have a wander round. I took my camera to take a few pictures and I must say I was very pleasantly surprised as, considering I wasn’t even aware of its existence, it’s a beautiful place and very peaceful, the perfect spot for a relaxing afternoon stroll. I spent a good few hours walking around and taking pictures, which you can find at https://427653.tumblr.com/hilton if you’re interested, as well as listening to music and taking in the views. I know it’s rather cliche but I do genuinely believe that getting out in the open and doing a bit of exploring is a great way to keep your spirits up during these times, as well as making sure you’re getting enough exercise. Let me know what you think of my pictures if you can be arsed to have a look.
I’ve decided to put up a photo wall in my room, so I’ve spent this afternoon trawling through my Google Photos, which go all the way back to 2011. I knew I had a few thousand on there because I’m always taking pictures but it turns out I actually have 26,647, so I’m starting to think I may have bitten off more than I can chew. Nevertheless, I’m determined to go through them all and pick out my favourites to go on my wall. Going through my pictures has brought up mixed emotions for me – there are obviously pictures of people I’m no longer friends with and, whatever the reason that we no longer talk, it’s sad to think about losing touch with people I once cared about. However, the overwhelming feeling is definitely one of happiness as I realise what wonderful friends I’ve been blessed with, remember the unforgettable memories we’ve made together and look forward to creating many more whilst taking hundreds of pictures of it.
Hope you’re all well. Stay safe.
