Well last night was definitely one of the most interesting Saturday nights I’ve had in quite a while. I managed to speak to most of my friends & play all sorts of drinking games without even leaving my room. As it turns out, the Houseparty app really is the place to be during quarantine and I actually rather enjoyed drifting between different group chats, although it was impossible to escape Sian popping up out of nowhere every five minutes to announce how steaming she was. It goes without saying that last night wasn’t as good as a usual night out but the fact that we all still came together to have a laugh & a few drinks with each other has reassured me that we’ll be able to get through this lockdown without totally losing our minds. I also learned some valuable lessons; I’m still better than GV on Call of Duty even after I’ve had a bottle of wine, Caitlin Smith is surprisingly good at Cards Against Humanity and Sam Morris likes to cheat at Scrabble. I look forward to wasting a lot of my time on this app over the next few weeks.
A few weeks ago, before Boris locked us all inside, I met my good friend Tom Morley at The Cow for dinner and a catch up. We spent a good few hours discussing potential plans for summer, such as another Sixth Form reunion or a big party, but we struggled to make any decisions. I ruled out a Sixth Form reunion because I can’t even remember half of my fellow John Port alumni and I refuse to spend 5 hours in the same room as Jonny Mellor. A lot of the ideas we had were fantastic (obviously) but they would involve too much organisation and certain friends of ours aren’t exactly known for their reliability (if you think this is about you, it is). Regardless, we eventually settled on a House Party at my house in Hull in Summer, but that now seems quite unlikely considering the current situation. I’d love to hear some ideas from my loyal readers regarding how we should celebrate once this is all over as myself and Tom would love to have something in the pipeline to look forward to. Do get in touch.
Despite being confident we can get through lockdown I do feel that reality is now starting to set in. I’ve been stuck in my house for a full week and the fact that there’s no end in sight is gradually starting to bring my mood down. So far I’ve been managing to get through by staying in regular contact with everyone and keeping myself distracted but I’m quickly learning that there’s a limit to these options. I’m hoping this is just the Soggy Sunday mood talking but I am beginning to realise this is going to be a real struggle. I’m a socialite at heart and the lack of socialising is more than likely going to drive me insane, so please make the most of my wonderful conversational skills before that happens. I suppose the fact that I’m outrageously funny and extremely popular should be enough to get me through.
Let’s hope we can make it through Week Two without being arrested. Stay safe.
