Put it on the AMEX

What a bloody strenuous week. The constraints that my overwhelming popularity places on my time are becoming tiresome and I’m considering a cull of some of my less interesting friends – I simply do not have enough time to engage properly with everyone. I jest, obviously, it’s nice to be back out and doing things now I have a renewed source of income. I’ve been working most days this week, but allow me to run you through what I’ve been up to when I haven’t been watching gambling addicts scream at virtual horses on a television.

On Monday evening I took a stroll around Hilton with Elia so we could have a long needed catch up. We discussed how she is moving in with her boyfriend and I’m very happy for her, but it has made me question if I’m making the right choices in life – one of my closest friends is about to become completely independent and I still have to negotiate the shopping list with my darling mother. Again, I jest, I’m very content as I am and I’m excited for Elia taking such a huge step in life – I’m also looking forward to the inevitable housewarming party once we get through this pissing pandemic. After Elia had gone my good friend Tom Robotham made an impromptu appearance at Tomlinson Manor, although I’m convinced he was more interested in enjoying my hot tub than he was in enjoying my company. We had a nice chat and he got me up to speed with his latest life plans and vice versa, although I probably took a lot more time explaining mine than he did his. Well, what can you expect?

Tuesday evening was date night with the love of my life, Samuel Morris. We dined at The Winery followed by a movie at Cineworld. I implore you to try The Winery if you’ve never been, they’re still doing the 50% off promotion Monday-Wednesday and the food is delectable. I had the Chinese Crispy Beef whilst Sam had the Steak Burger and we both very much enjoyed our meals. Afterwards we saw Tenet at the cinema which was quite good but, at risk of exposing myself as a bit slow, it was rather difficult to follow at some points, although this just added to the enjoyment for me as I was trying to figure out what was going on, where as for Sam it must have had the opposite effect as he spent most of the film watching the Burton match on his phone. There’s probably a metaphor for our friendship in there somewhere.

My very beautiful and gorgeous friend Adam Griffiths-Vernon graced me with his presence on Wednesday evening and I cooked us chicken & pasta in a tomato sauce, which was extremely tasty if I do say so myself. I’ve been watching cricket a bit recently and, surprisingly, I’ve found it rather enjoyable, so as GV is so into his cricket I thought it would be nice to watch the last England vs Australia one day international together. Yes, I know, I’m the most thoughtful person you’ve ever heard of, there’s no need to go on about it. I’m rather upset that Geeves has departed to Reading to complete his final year of University and my heart already aches in his absence, but I’m hoping to get down there to visit him soon enough so I’m sure I’ll manage. Hopefully.

Continuing the theme of cooking, my slightly less beautiful and gorgeous friend Elizabeth Bowes attended Tomlinson Manor on Thursday evening and offered to cook dinner for Hayley and I. They say you learn something new every day and I learned that fajitas are much nicer if you slice the peppers rather than dice them, which is apparently common knowledge despite the fact that I’ve been dicing mine for years. I enjoyed listening to Lizzie talk shit for a bit whilst I watched the golf and I’m sure she enjoyed slagging me off to my face for a few hours – say what you will, our friendship has always been mutually beneficial.

I’m starting to realise that my life revolves almost entirely around food as my Friday evening was spent at The Bilash having a curry with Hayley, Tilley and Milly. I tried a new curry for the first time and it was absolutely delicious – Garlic Butter Chilli Chicken – although it was a bit too hot for Hayley’s liking. Hayley and I tend to share curries whenever we go out for one and we’ve been enjoying expanding our horizons by trying some new ones recently. Anyway, it’s always nice to spend some time catching up with Tilley and Milly and the night was full of laughter, although on a more serious note, Tilley went to see a psychic last week and she was told that Benny is pleased that I still spend time with Milly and look out for her, which was touching to hear even if I don’t necessarily believe in that kind of thing. If such things do exist, I suppose it’s nice to think that my best mate is looking down on me.

Last night I went out for cocktails with Lizzie and her boyfriend Liam. Those who know me best will be aware that I’ve traditionally resented the idea of third wheeling, yet I actually rather enjoyed it last night and we had a good laugh – as a matter of fact, Liam is surprisingly amusing, although I suppose I should have expected as much as I know from experience that humour is the only coping mechanism sophisticated enough to deal with significant amounts of time spent in the company of Elizabeth Bowes. Once again, I jest, it was fun to spend time with the pair of them and perhaps my eyes have been opened to the idea of allowing my friends to have a significant other.

I’ve been pondering for a while whether to replace my Chromebook so today, after I’d spend the entire morning in bed feeling sorry for myself, I decided to take the plunge and bought myself a MacBook Air. Delivery was going to take over a week so I decided to go and collect it from the Apple store in Leicester, which was a surreal experience in itself with the mask wearing and people getting their temperatures tested. Anyway, this means that this is, therefore, the first blog I’ve written on my new laptop, and I’m already certain that it will prove to be a wise investment – they might be a predatory, monopolistic corporation bent on world domination but there’s something about Apple products that proves to be irresistible.

Right, I’m off to spend the evening with my old friend Liam Smith. I hope you’re all well. Stay safe.
