As yet another week of lockdown comes to an end, I feel it’s important to reflect on what I’ve managed to achieve over the past seven days – absolutely sod all. After reading the news this morning it seems highly likely that lockdown will continue for at least another month which, despite being the right thing to do, is awfully depressing. Through sheer boredom I’ve read just about every article there is about possible exit strategies and the predicament facing the Government but there are so many variables and unknowns that it seems rather futile to try and guess when this will all be over. It seems that even if we manage to exit lockdown before the start of June, measures such as working from home & social distancing are likely to remain in place for the rest of the year and possibly longer, depending on the progress being made with vaccines. I know some people are trying to take it day by day (looking at you Elia my darling) and that is fair enough but, looking to the medium term, things appear to be pretty grim.
On a lighter note, last night it was Sam’s turn to host the 2 Gingers 1 Brooks Saturday Night Quiz and, to be fair to him, he did quite a good job. Naturally it was I who emerged victorious but I did my best to let everyone think they actually had a chance because, as I’m sure you already know, I’m not a fan of being too arrogant about my insane natural intelligence. Snapchat and Facetime are an absolute blessing during this lockdown but I simply cannot articulate just how much I’m beginning to miss seeing my friends. Sian has been nominated as quiz master for next Saturday so I look forward to 40 questions based solely on sexual intercourse and TikTok. Sadly we haven’t been able to persuade Brooks to take part yet so I’m hoping Sian might flash him her tits or something to get him involved next week. I never thought I’d utter these words but I really do miss that fat scumbag.
Whilst we’re on the subject of my friends, their thoughtfulness continues to amaze me. A few days ago Sam dropped some easter eggs off for me and Hayals which was a lovely gesture – I can only assume the recent sunny weather has sent him doolally as he did this for the whole friendship group and hasn’t yet demanded anything in return. This afternoon, Elia brought me some tiramisu she made herself. When we were in Birmingham last month for our birthdays, we went for dinner and she had tiramisu for dessert so I tried a bit (I’d never had it before) and absolutely loved it. Elia’s own version was absolutely delectable and she will definitely live to regret setting this precedent. The rest of you ought to buck up your ideas to be honest, Elia and Sam obviously know how to keep me happy.
One of my housemates in Hull unfollowed me on Instagram this week and I was absolutely devastated. I thought I’d formed some real emotional connections up there and made some lifelong friends so it was awfully painful to learn that one of my new besties didn’t feel the same way. Oh wait, I’ve just remembered I don’t care. It’s strange really, I’ve spent three years of my life with these people and I’ve already forgotten most of them. That’s not to say they’re bad people, everyone except Georgia was lovely, it’s just that we never really clicked, probably because they’re not my type of people. It takes a certain level of shallowness and conceitedness to become a proper friend of mine. I wish them all the best – they’ll fucking need it, we’re all getting degrees from the University of Hull, the higher education equivalent of Burton College (no offence Deville).
I hope next week is just as fun as this week has been. Stay safe.
