5th April 2020

I was chatting to a close friend last night and he asked me why I haven’t been posting on my blog, so I thought I’d use that conversation as an excuse to talk about myself. Some of my more loyal readers may have noticed that I haven’t posted anything since Tuesday and, if this is the case, I suggest you get a life. I know it must be awfully tough having to get through the week without any new pieces from me but, although you may find this hard to believe, I am not a fan of writing just for the sake of writing. I do sympathise with your position, especially as spending so much time on my own this week has reminded me what fantastic company I really am, but rest assured I am still going, my writing as witty & whimsical as ever, and I will endeavour to churn out as much mindless bollocks as I possibly can to keep you all happy. I’m nothing if not a public servant.

Last night I hosted the inaugural 2 Gingers 1 Brooks Saturday Night Quiz and, despite some minor technical issues, it went rather well. It was nice to get everyone together, even if it was only over Facetime, and we all had a good laugh. I tried to make the questions as challenging as possible but when you’re dealing with mental powerhouses like Kiera Kavagnah it can be quite hard to overcome their wide ranging general knowledge and implausible intelligence. One thing that has pleasantly surprised me so far during lockdown is the inventive ideas myself & my friends have come up with to keep in touch with each other and have a bit of fun. Most of them are as thick as shit but the quiz kept us all entertained for an hour or so and I’m already looking forward to round two next week – I imagine it will be quite a challenge to beat the top score of 13/28.

I have decided to put in an application to study Creative Writing MA at the University of Nottingham next year. I have already accepted a conditional offer to study Politics & Contemporary History MA but I’ve been doing a lot of thinking recently and I’m no longer sure that is what I really want to do. I understand that the latter would almost definitely be better for my career prospects than the former but I’ve been studying Politics for five years now and, to be perfectly honest, I’m fucking bored of it. If we’re being realistic, I’m not hugely arsed about my career prospects because I’m motivated by other things, like finding true happiness and trying to avoid a mental breakdown. I’ve been writing a lot recently, for this blog and other bits and bobs, and I’m actually really enjoying it – it has genuinely been quite overwhelming to see other people enjoy my work and I suppose it would be quite selfish to keep my awe inspiring talent hidden away. I think it’s about time I consider doing something I enjoy rather than what everyone else expects of me. Not that I have to explain myself to you twats.

I’ve just polished off a mixed kebab so I can’t really be arsed to write anything else. Stay safe.
