Listed below you can find a list of things that made me smile over the past month or so.
- As I was driving home from the gym one morning, I saw a paper boy walking down the street reading The Derby Telegraph, and I smiled because it’s the exact kind of thing I used to do
- As I was walking Forest, I saw some council workers driving around on the back of a truck, stopping at each lamppost to water the flower beds at the top, and I smiled because it looked like they were having fun
- A barista wrote “enjoy the day!” on my coffee, and I smiled because it was such an unnecessary but lovely thing to do
- On the way to Belgium, the guy sitting next to me on the plane kept nodding off, meaning his head kept bobbing and almost resting on my shoulder before he’d jerk himself awake, which made me smile as we’ve all been there before
- A couple at a restaurant opposite the bar we were sitting in kept smiling at each other and were very clearly in love, which made me smile because I love to see love
- As we walked through the city, people were lying in the central square eating, drinking and having fun, which made me smile as it was such a wholesome scene
- Towards the end of our evening, a Belgian waiter was indulging an old man by listening to what was clearly a very boring story, and it made me smile because it was a really nice thing for him to do. It also made me smile when the waiters had a glass of wine and a cigarette together once they’d finished their shift
- Back home, I saw a group of young people (I’d guess 14/15) sitting near us when I went for a curry with my Mum, and it made me smile because it reminded me of when my friends and I used to do that, thinking we were super mature
- There was an absolute whirlwind of activity in the smoking area whilst I was trying to have a peaceful cigarette, and it made me smile because there was so much laughter
- I saw a young lad getting off the bus with his board and casually skating away, which made me smile because he looked really cool
- I smiled as I watched Forest chasing the hose around the garden and trying to eat the water whilst Mum watered the plants
- I smile at my neighbour almost every day when she waves hello to me in the morning, since she is somehow always in her front garden having a cigarette no matter what time I come back from the gym
- I saw a couple sat quietly chatting in the upstairs of Waterstones, and it made me smile not only because I love to see love, but I love to see a love of books, too
- Music Sounds Better With You came on Non-Stop Pop FM as I was driving around Los Santos on Grand Theft Auto, and I smiled because I suddenly realised that I’ve been playing this game for over ten years now, and I still love it just as much as I did back then
- I walked past an Asda delivery man sat in his van singing to his radio, and it made me smile because he was clearly enjoying himself
- Someone had a toy doll of Woody from Toy Story hanging from their tow bar, which made me smile because it was just pretty funny to see
- I saw lots of people out walking their dogs, and it made me smile because I know how something so simple can feel so rewarding
- Two young toddlers, encouraged by their parents, waved at each other from across the street, and I smiled because it was really really sweet
- I walked past a three legged dog, trotting along happily with its owner, and I smiled because it reminded me that life can be beautiful even when bad things happen to us
- I walked past a bench that had a really beautiful inscription on it, which made me smile, so I sat down for a while and thought about what I’d read
